                                               DENTURES

if it becomes necessary to have some teeth removed, they should be replaced as soon as possible with a bridge a mounting for false teeth anchored to natural teeth on either side or a partial or full denture.

Why Missing Teeth Must Be Replace

Chewing ability and clarity of speech may be impaired if missing
teeth are not replaced. Also, each tooth functions to hold the teeth on either side and opposite it in place. If a tooth is lost, the tooth opposite may erupt further and the teeth on either side shift in their positions because there is no counterforce to keep them in place. Food particles lodge in the spaces created by the shifting teeth, plaque forms, and periodontal disease develops, causing the loss of additional teeth. This loss may take years if the movement of intact teeth is slow, but if they tilt and shift rapidly into the empty spaces, the remaining teeth may be lost in a much shorter time.
The loss of a few teeth can also alter a person's appearance. The
cheeks may become puckered and the lips drawn together, making the individual look older than he is.

How Fitting of Dentures works?

Modern techniques and materials of construction and the skill of
modern dentists should assure well fitting, natural looking dentures.
The dentist selects the tooth shade and shape that are best for an individual's face size, contours, and  coloring. No one, however, has perfectly arranged, perfectly  white natural teeth. Tooth colouring depends upon genetic Factors and changes as one grows older. These factors must be considered in designing dentures.

How Bridges and Partial Dentures works

Several different types; of  dental appliances may be constructed to fill empty spaces. Some, such as dental bridges, are attached to the remaining natural teeth by cementing them.
Others, such as complete sets of dentures, are removable.

A bridge may be made entirely of gold, a combination of gold and porcelain, or combinations of gold or porcelain and other materials. If there is a sound natural tooth on either side of the space, a pontic, or suitable substitute for the missing tooth, is fused to the metal bridge, and the crown retainer on either side of the pontic is cemented to the crowns of the neighboring natural teeth.

If there are no natural teeth near the space created by an extracted tooth, a partial denture may be constructed to replace the missing teeth. This appliance fastens by a clasp onto the last tooth on each side of the space. A bar on the inside of the front teeth provides stability for the partial denture.

The partial denture can be removed for cleaning. A special brush,
usually cone.shaped to fit into the clasp, is available for cleaning the device. It should be cleaned whenever the natural teeth are
brushed. The pontic, or tooth substitute of a bridge, remains in place permanently and is brushed like a natural tooth.

A bridge or partial denture helps  prevent further deterioration of the mouth if it is kept clean and in good condition. But the dentist always check bridges and partial dentures periodically to determine if they have become loosened. A loose clasp of a partial denture can rock the teeth to which the device is attached, causing their loss.

Complete Dentures

Before a full set of removable dentures is constructed, the dentist
will make a complete set of X rays to determine whether there are any abnormalities in the gum ridges, such as cysts or tooth root tips that may have to be removed, If the gums are in a poor condition, treatments may be needed to improve the surfaces of the ridges on which the dentures will be fitted. Then an impression is made and tooth and shade selections are discussed. Several other appointments may be arranged before the new dentures finally are
delivered to the patient, appointments may be needed for"try-ins"of
dentures as they are being constructed and adjustments after completion of the set.

Although dentures do not change with age, the mouth does. Therefore, it is necessary for the denture wearer to have occasional dental checkups. At denture checkup appointments, the dentist examines oral tissues for irritation and determines how the dentures fit with respect to possible changing conditions of the mouth. If the dentures no longer fit properly, a replacement may be recommended. The dentist also seeks to correct any irritations of
the oral tissues of the mouth and polishes the dentures, making them smooth and easier to keep clean between checkups. If any of the teeth in the dentures has become damaged, the dentist can repair or replace the denture tooth.

How Caring For Your  Dentures Is So Important

Dentures should be cleaned daily with a denture brush and toothpaste ; once a week they should be soaked for seven or eight hours in a denture cleaner. To avoid breaking them during the brushing process, fill a wash basin with water and place it under the dentures while they are being cleaned ; if they are dropped, the dentures will be cushioned by the water. A harsh abrasive that
could scratch the denture surface should not be used. Scratches allow stains to penetrate the surface of the dentures, creating permanent discoloration.

The use of adhesives and powders is only a temporary soluaon to
illfitting dentures. In time, the dentist may rebuild the gum side of the denture to conform with the shape of ridge. The patient's gum ridge try to make his own changes In the fit of dentures.
Rebuilding the gum side of the dentures, or relining as it is called,
usually begins with a soft temporary material if the patient's gums
are in poor condition, and requires several appointments over a period of two or three weeks while the gum tissues are being restored to good health.

Most patients show some concern over the replacement of natural teeth with dentures, even when a set of complete dentures is needed to replace an earlier set. Some people associate the loss of teeth with old age in the same way that others resist the advice that they should wear eyeglasses or a hearing aid. The fact is that many millions of persons of all ages have found they can improve their eating, speaking, and physical appearance by obtaining attractive
and well fitted dentures.
The fact is their is nothing compared to what God as created for us.We are carefully and wonderfully made.Always take proper care of yourself everyday, no comparison whatever to your natural self made by God.
